It started off simple enough: Jay Deacon read the daily bulletins in high school over the PA system each morning. Everyone said he should do it for a living. So, one college dropout later, Deacon was unemployed until he got a job making Crayola crayons in his hometown of Winfield, KS. After following Phish and realizing it was just as equally a waste of time as being unemployed---yet exponentially more expensive, Deacon worked at a convenience store until one day things changed.
An evil little man with an AM radio station approached Jay about doing morning news and play by play. For a measly $900 a month (before taxes) Deacon eagerly accepted the job. Twenty one months and a termination later, Jay landed his dream job at KICT in Wichita. Thirteen months and a termination later, Deacon was headed to WRKR.
In September of 2000, Deacon packed everything in a truck and headed for Kalamazoo. He's been doing afternoon drive every since and has been the Program Director for 107.7 WRKR since September of 2002.
In October of 2004, he married the lovely Mandelicious, and the two of them reside in Plainwell with their two Boxers, Bubba and Nike.
It is proof that you can fail at every job and school you have ever attended, and as long as you're absolutely sure what you're capable of doing for a living---still succeed. When God gives you lemons--FIND A NEW GOD.
Deacon is a fan of Heroes, 30 Rock, Entourage, The Office, Rock Band on X-Box LIVE (gamertag: JAY DEACON), Prison Break, Megan Fox, Healthy Appetite w/ Ellie Krieger on FOOD Network, Big Trouble in Little China , DirecTV HD, and Heineken Light in the mini-keg.
